Once A Man

Verse1
My daddy is a tough old man
He don’t like showing his e-motions
You’ll only know he cares for you
When he buys you a thing or two...

Verse2
Surprising how that’s all changed
Surpassing him now is time and age
It’s daunting how he lives like a star
But time’s moving fast…a star’s about to fall

Chorus
Once a man twice a child
Now he’s old and gray he cries:
I was strong but now I’m weak
I was a man but now I’m a boy
I am alive but now I’m dying…
I’m dying like a lonely star….

Verse3
He lives his life playing hard…
Mama never really stood a chance….
Dad was a ship passing in the night
I guess that’s how I came to be alive

Bridge
I tried hard to get to know him
But as soon as I’m almost there,
He breaks away; and then disappears
I only know what he wants me to know

Chorus
Once a man twice a child
Now he’s old and gray he cries:
I was strong but now I’m weak
I was a man but now I’m a boy
I am alive but now I’m dying…
I’m dying like a lonely star….

(Rpt verse2)
Surprising how that’s all changed
Surpassing him now is time and age
It’s daunting how he lives like a star
But time’s moving fast…a star’s about to fall

Chorus
Once a man twice a child
Now he’s old and gray he cries:
I was strong but now I’m weak
I was a man but now I’m a boy
I am alive but now I’m dying…
I’m dying like a lonely star….
